Benavides and Cuevas Twice Honored

The State Bar of Wisconsin was presented with the Association for
Continuing Legal Education's 2004 Outstanding Achievement Award for the
book Critical Terms in Criminal Proceedings in Spanish and
English. The authors, Ron Benavides, U.W. 1993,
and Luis Cuevas, U.W. 1992, were also honored by the
State Public Defender's Office in October.
The book promotes consistency in the translation of criminal justice
terms and promotes improving the standard of representation of
Spanish-speaking clients.
"Their efforts affect the entire justice system," said State Public
Defender Nicholas L. Chiarkas, Temple 1978. "I thank Luis and Ron for
helping to ensure our criminal justice system is available and
accessible to everybody.
