Stephanie A. Lyons, U.W. 1995, and Zhibin Ren, U.W. 2000, have joined the law department at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Milwaukee. Lyons is assistant general counsel and assistant secretary on the real estate investment team and previously was with Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Milwaukee. Theodore J. (T.J.) Perlick-Molinari, Marquette 2005, has joined Birdsall Law Offices S.C., Milwaukee and Green Bay, and focuses on criminal and drunk driving defense.

Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

Henak Law Office S.C. has relocated its offices to 316 N. Milwaukee St., #535, Milwaukee, and continues to focus on state and federal postconviction work, criminal appeals, and state revocations of criminal supervision matters.

Dean M. Horwitz, U.W. 1974, has relocated the Law Offices of Dean M. Horwitz S.C., to 2825 N. Mayfair Rd., Suite 201, Wauwatosa. He continues to focus on personal injury, worker's compensation, and arbitration and mediation.

Michael G. May, U.W. 1990, has opened the Law Office of Michael G. May, 200 W. Silver Spring Dr., Suite K, Bayshore Town Center, Glendale, and emphasizes estate and business planning. He previously was director of advanced planning at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Milwaukee.

Appointments, Elections

James D. Babbitt, U.W. 1979, was elected to the newly-created Branch 3 circuit judge seat in Barron County. He previously was an assistant district attorney.

Lynn J. Bodi, U.W. 1987, has been elected vice president of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She is with the Law Center for Children and Families, Madison.

The Chippewa County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Teresa Germain, Chippewa Falls; and treasurer - Brian Nodolf, Eau Claire.

Paul D. Christensen, Marquette 1987, has been elected municipal judge for the village of Whitefish Bay. He is with Ziino, Germanotta, Knoll & Christensen, Milwaukee.

Barbara Cox, U.W. 1982 cum laude, has been named the Clara Shortridge Foltz Professor of Law at California Western School of Law, San Diego. She teaches civil procedure, property, comparative issues in gender, family and sexuality, and women and the law.

Rochelle H. Klaskin, Chicago-Kent 1998, has been appointed managing partner of the Madison office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C. She is a shareholder and member of the corporate practice group and focuses on mergers and acquisitions, general counsel advising, and private equity and venture capital transactions.

The La Crosse County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Mary C. Lansing; president elect - Patrick J. Houlihan; secretary - Allen T. Trapp; and treasurer - Nick Passe, all of La Crosse.

Dennis R. McBride, New York Univ. 1980, has been elected as a Wauwatosa alderperson. He is a senior trial attorney in the Milwaukee-area office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

C. Scott Pryor, U.W. 1980, will be directing the Regent University Summer Program in International Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. He is a professor at Regent University School of Law, Virginia Beach, Va.

The Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association has elected the following officers: president - Kristela L. Cervera, Milwaukee; president-elect - Carlos A. Ortiz, Chicago; secretary - Jacquelynn A. Ruiz, Milwaukee; and treasurer - David A. Westrup, Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has selected the Hon. Mary K. Wagner, U.W. 1982, to serve as the new chief judge of the Second Judicial Administrative District. She is deputy chief judge of the district and sits on the Kenosha County Circuit Court. The court reappointed the following judges to new terms as chief judges: the Hon. J. Mac Davis, Michigan 1976, Waukesha County, Third Judicial District; the Hon. John R. Storck, Harvard 1979, Dodge County, Sixth Judicial District; the Hon. Sue E. Bischel, Minnesota 1978, Brown County, Eighth Judicial District; and the Hon. Dorothy L. Bain, U.W. 1989, Marathon County, Ninth Judicial District.

Timothy F. Nixon, U.W. 1990, has coauthored Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring Law 2008 (Aspatore Books). He is a shareholder and team leader of the business finance and restructuring practice group with Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Green Bay.

Matthew Pinix, Marquette 2007, has authored "The Unconstitutionality of DOMA+INA," 18 George Mason Univ. Civil Rights L.J. 455 (2008). He is a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Patricio M. Serna of the New Mexico Supreme Court.

Elizabeth T. Russell, Pace 1986, presented "Music Licensing: Myths, Truths and Solutions" at the American Association of Museums annual meeting in Denver in April. She practices entertainment and intellectual property law at Russell Law, Madison.

The Hon. Paul Wickham Schmidt, U.W. 1973, presented the keynote address, "Welcome to the Breakfast Club: Immigration Policy and its Impact on Education Policy," at the Eighth Annual Language, Culture, and Education Institute at U.W.-Oshkosh in March. He is a U.S. immigration judge in Arlington, Va.

The Hon. Charles B. Schudson, U.W. 1974, presented a law and literature seminar, "Marriage, Murder, Isolation and … Judging" at the Indiana Judicial Conference in Indianapolis in April. He is a Wisconsin reserve judge.

Retirements

Dennis R. Nolan, Harvard 1970, has retired from the University of South Carolina Law School after 34 years' service and will continue his arbitration and mediation practice at 162 Harbor Dr. N., Saint Helena Island, S.C.

Thomas M. Domer, U.W. 1983, was inducted as a Fellow in the ABA College of Workers' Compensation Attorneys in Chicago in March. He also presented "Workers' Compensation: Where Do We Go From Here?" at the National Trends in Workers' Compensation Seminar. He is with Domer Law S.C., Milwaukee.

Burton (Burt) A. Wagner, U.W. 1966, was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Wisconsin Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (WAHSA) in May in recognition of his work as legal counsel for WAHSA for the past 25 years. He is a shareholder and a member of the health care department of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee.
